ECONOMIC REVIEW OF THE GABROVO REGION
Places of interest worldwide known are located on the territory of the semi-mountainous Gabrovo region. This part of Bulgaria is famous for its settlements of ancient ethnographical architecture, retained style and manner of living, characteristic of the various epochs of the Bulgarian history. They are the ethnographical complexes “ETARA”, Bozhentzi (an architecture and historical reserve), the town of Tryavna – with well preserved style of the Renaissance period offering wonderful conditions for rest. The town of Gabrovo, situated at the foothills of the mountain, offers a lot of facilities for rest and sports grounds. Gabrovo enjoys the worldwide recognition for being the capital of humour and satire. The only House of Humour and Satire in the world is here. Every year Gabrovo is the Host City of the international days of humour and satire (including a festival, exhibitions and competitions).
The Gabrovo region has been one of the most outstanding industrial centres of Bulgaria since old times. The ancient crafts, trades and manufactures have developed and grew today into up-to-date enterprises. Different branches of industry are very well developed in this region:
textile, garments’ making, knitwear;
The Gabrovo region disposes of skilled workers and highly qualified specialists, who have acquired their education and training in the secondary, vocational and higher education technical schools on the territory of the town.
