Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister: We’ll enter Schengen as scheduled
30.08.2010
“Bulgaria’s entry to the Schengen Area depends largely on the timely introduction of identity documents containing the holder’s biometrics and successful conclusion of border checks,” foreign minister Nikolay Mladenov told the national radio.
We have all grounds to think that the planned measures will be introduced as scheduled, although there was significant delay last year.
"We have to take into consideration the fact that Romania is a larger country with a longer border line, and as such it has greater challenges to meet as regards its Schengen entry. In this line of thoughts, I would like to say that Bulgaria’s candidacy will most probably be discussed next year, and its positive assessment depends largely on the possibility of consensus between the Schengen member countries.
