"Introduction
Experts from the Bulgarian Industrial Association along with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation conducted an informative programme and research in May 1997 entitled Basic Changes in Production, Labour Productivity and the Actual Payment within the Major Branches of the Bulgarian Industry for the Period 1990-1997. Comparative data and reports on the basic tendencies during the pre-reform period (1985-1990) were submitted as separate indicators of the industry sector.
In this way information was provided and the basic changes in production, productivity and payment during the so-called “transitory” or “reformative” period were analyzed. Its beginning is usually related to the partial price liberalization conducted in May 1990, the launch of market reforms, the moratorium on the foreign national debt payment, the implementation of free-floating exchange rate of the national monetary unit (February 1991), deregulation of economic activity and trade banking, resettling of the foreign trade regulations limits, price liberalization on the major markets, elimination of the chronic deficits in the trade and labour “markets”, which are characteristic of the command and control economy, as well as to other structural and institutional changes.........."
