Nabucco gas pipeline construction to be sped up

The Caspian countries refuse to sign gas supply contracts before construction begins

Nabucco gas pipeline will be sped up, the European Union is determined to accelerate the project, Dimitar Abadzhiev told the Pari daily. He has been nominated as board member of Nabucco Gas Pipeline International. A few days ago the European Commission approved EUR 200 million for the pipeline, which proves Brussels' strong desire to carry out the strategic project.

In Abadzhiev's words, financing and the lack of political will are the main problems hampering the project. The Caspian countries refuse to sign gas supply contracts before construction begins.

On the other hand, the project participants are unwilling to start construction before the deliveries have been agreed, Abadzhiev explained. The preparation of the project will be expedited, so that construction works can begin in 2011.
